About Me

Learning to Play the HarpMy Story

  • I started learning piano aged 7 and violin aged 10
  • I passed all grades I to VIII (Associated Board) on both, with many with distinctions and merits
  • I started teaching music at the age of 16 to a few local children
  • I attended the Hull Grammar School in Kingston-Upon Hull where I achieved 8 GCSEs and 4 A-Levels
  • I read Music at Bretton Hall College (Leeds University) where I also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (P.G.C.E), specialising in Music
  • I taught in Primary Schools in Yorkshire and Hertfordshire for several years, specialising in Music for most of that time
  • I currently teach from my home, in Milton, and I welcome interested students of all ages, backgrounds and experiences
  • My lifetime ambition is to learn to play as many musical instruments as possible

  • Over 18 years teaching experience including individual, group and whole classes, children aged 2 upwards and adults.
  • 100% success rate with Associated Board Practical and Theory Examinations.
  • Previous member of numerous musical ensembles over the years, including school and university orchestras and choirs, Hull Junior Philharmonic Orchestra (leader for 2 years), Hull Philharmnic Orchestra, Stevenage Symphony Orchestra, Cambridge String Players, Harry's Band (Hertfordshire based Ceilidh Band), hand-bell ringing.
  • Current member of Playfair String Quartet Club, ancient music group Ely Waits, CSD Brass, St Augustine's Chamber Choir and PANIC Steel Band, Cambridge.  I also enjoy playing casually with friends on a number of musical instruments!
